I had never been to Algeria before. I knew nearly nothing about this country even though it is part of my identity. The only times i would hear about it, was when my aunts and uncles in France would tell about their summer plans of returning “au bled”. A term used by Maghrebian immigrants for „homecoming“. I would never understand the true meaning of this until 2017 when i decided to travel there for the first time in my life in order to discover my roots. This photo series is an attempt to capture the feeling of homecoming. The feeling of exploring a place that you have never seen before but that you are still somehow emotionally attached to. And an attempt to capture the simple Algerian life driven by religion and a small income.
